Submitting an Absence Request in Sora Home (Parent/Guardian Guide)

Written by Holly Kinnamont

Parents and guardians can submit absence requests for their students directly in Sora Home. Students are not able to create absence requests.

Using the Request Absence feature helps ensure accurate attendance records and keeps Sora Program faculty in the loop.

You can also submit retroactive (past) absence requests within the current cycle, which makes it easier to account for unexpected or unplanned absences.

How to Submit an Absence Request

To submit an absence, log in to your Parent/Guardian account in Sora Home.

If you have multiple students in the Sora Program, use the menu in the top-right corner of your browser to select the correct student.

From your home page, click View Full Calendar.

On the calendar page, click Request Absence from the dropdown menu.

You'll be taken to the absence request form. Fill out the details for your student’s absence, including the date(s) and reason.

You can indicate whether the absence will be for a full day (including for multiple days).

You can also opt for a partial-day absence.

When you’re done, click Submit.

Once submitted, you’ll be taken back to the calendar page, where you’ll see a confirmation message. The new absence displayed on your student’s calendar on the date(s) you selected (you may need to refresh the page first).

You can create absence events for past, present, or future dates.

You can click into any expedition sessions and house standups that take place during your excused absence to confirm that you've been excused.

Managing Absence Requests

Absence requests are approved automatically. You'll see them displayed on the calendar, indicating whether it's a full or partial day absence.

Click on an absence in the calendar to edit or delete it. This is particularly useful for adjusting the details of the absence, such as changing a full day absence to a partial day.
